Deb here, yesterday was quite a day! We checked into a new hotel (the swank Pan Pacific) in the morning, picked up our Olympic swag, took the bus back down to Vancouver, stood in the rain for security to let us into the Women's Free Skate, enjoyed 4 hours of ice skating, then took the 2-hour bus ride back to our hotel. We arrived back to our room at 1:30am! All worth it, the Ice Skating was amazing. We were seated up pretty high, but the view of the entire rink gave us a view that you could never capture on tv. The speed with which they cover the entire rink you can only appreciate live. You can see the tv coverage on the large monitors up above the rink for close ups. I had my binoculars out, but found them unnecessary. I liked the experience of taking in the whole rink, the reaction of the crowd, and of course the wine they served!! Four hours seems like a long time to watch ice skating (an excruciating time for you Dick) but the time just flew by, and we became pretty good at rating each of the skaters. Of course we were outraged at the difference between our scores and the judges!
Check out our swag! We got the neck ticket holder, a shoulder bag, a rain poncho, and a fold up bag. I'll be attaching my pins to the neck ribbon, and hopefully start trading. Today is a free day, and we plan to head out and enjoy Whistler Village. TV coverage, cameras, special events are all over the village. Tomorrow we'll head up the mountain for Men's Nordic Combined in the morning, then a Victory Metals party in the evening.
